Best Running Quotes About Injury

February 11, 2012 by Amiee

During my seemingly endless recovery from multiple hip FAI surgeries, I sought out supportive and inspiring quotes about running injuries. Truthfully it was very difficult to stay motivated during the long recovery, but the words below bettered my mood just a little.

Dealing with an injury adds stress to your life that affects all other areas of life. So what do you do with all that extra stress when you don’t have your favored coping mechanism (i.e. running) available? You can either experience meltdown after meltdown or you can spend the downtime exploring, discovering or rediscovering other interests and finding contentment and meaning elsewhere.

“Whatever you may be missing right now – a person, a place, a feeling, maybe you are injured and missing running – whatever it is, have peace and take heart – remember that any goodbye makes room for a hello.”~Kristen Armstrong

“I don’t deal with it very well. The injury has added a level of stress that has affected all areas of my life, and it has required me to look at myself and my make-up and how I make myself happy and find meaning.” ~Anton Krupicka

“Run when you can, walk when you have to, crawl if you must; just never give up.” ~ Dean Karnazes

“It hurts up to a point and then it doesn’t get any worse.” ~ Ann Trason

“You must listen to your body. Run through annoyance but not through pain.” ~Dr. George Sheehan

“Tough times don’t last but tough people do.” ~A.C. Green

“I don’t think I have the mileage on me to really complain of any injuries yet.” ~Shannon Miller

“I learned, for example, that running injuries can be caused by being female, being male, being old, being young, pronating too much, pronating too little, training too much, and training too little.” ~Amby Burfoot in The Top 10 Laws of Injury Prevention

“I often lose motivation, but it’s something I accept as normal.” ~ Bill Rodgers

“Recovery feels like shit. It didn’t feel like I was doing something good; it felt like I was giving up. It feels like having to learn how to walk all over again.”~ Portia de Rossi

“Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional.” ― Haruki Murakami

“The idea that the harder you work, the better you’re going to be is just garbage. The greatest improvement is made by the man or woman who works most intelligently.”~ Bill Bowerman
