How to Take Your Dog Into Canada

February 14, 2018 by Amiee

I’ve had a zillion people ask me how I took my dog into Canada this past summer to which I answer with their passport silly. But seriously I had zero problems getting my dog into Canada and back into the United States although I had secretly been hoping the they wouldn’t let us back in…

The Ruffwear K9 Float Coat is worth it just for the photo ops! This legit puppy PFD helps keep your little buddy safe on boats, boards, and swims. Having grown up with water loving labs, I never in a zillion years thought I would be in the market for a dog life jacket, but the Ruffwear…

Dog Friendly Salt Lake City

November 18, 2016 by Amiee

For my second installment of Dog Friendly City, I’m talking about my hometown of Salt Lake City. Salt Lake City is both one of the best cities in the West for dogs and also one of the worst since dogs are sadly not allowed in many of the recreation areas close to the city. There’s…

Dog Friendly Adventuring in Silverton, Colorado

October 20, 2016 by Amiee

Welcome to a new Trail Stoke series, Dog Friendly City! First destination: Dog Friendly Silverton, Colorado. I’m relatively new to the traveling with dog world so I’ve had to make several adjustments in my travel routine. I often travel alone and my daily on the road routine typically goes something like this: sunrise adventure run…

Mini Aussie Running: One Zillion Photos of Pure Joy

May 8, 2016 by Amiee

In Mary Oliver’s delightful book, Dog Songs she puts into words the special bond between human and dog: “Because of the dog’s joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog…

A Stansbury Island Mini Ridge Run

April 11, 2016 by Amiee

I’ve been lusting after the Stansbury Island Traverse for years. Stansbury Island is the 2nd largest island in the Great Salt Lake and the entire island is only 11.5 miles long so it can be traversed in one day. The ridge is mostly straightforward I am told, but there are a few sections of class 4…

100 Photos Per Mile Pace

February 21, 2016 by Amiee

Be happy in the moment, that’s enough. Each moment is all we need, not more. ~Mother Teresa Road runners measure their runs by per mile pace, trail runners by time typically in hours, and wanderers in epicness of sunrises, number of beers carried into the wilderness, and photos taken per outing. I’m a trail runner…

Little Dog, Great Lake

February 8, 2016 by Amiee

I recently picked up Dale Morgan’s The Great Salt Lake at a used bookstore and delved right in. I enjoyed his initial description of Great Salt Lake as moody and raw and intolerant. Great Salt Lake is an ironical joke of nature-water that is itself more desert than desert. Moody and withdrawn, the lake unites…
