One hundred degrees in the forecast for SLC so I am thinking about fleeing to Canada next week. Looking for suggestions in the Canadian Rockies? I may never come back…
I am reading Trevor Noah’s Born a Crime right now and am totally blown away by his stories growing up in South Africa during the end of apartheid. The book is both hilarious and deeply disturbing and I highly recommend it! Here is one of my favorite passages equating hustling in the ghettos to wasting time on the Internet.
Hustling is to work what surfing the Internet is to reading. If you add up how much you read in a year on the Internet- tweets, Facebook posts, list – you’ve read the equivalent of a shit ton of books, but in fact you’ve read no books in a year. When I look back on it, that’s what hustling was. It’s maximal effort put into minimal gain. It’s a hamster wheel. If I’d put all that energy into studying I’d have earned an MBA. Instead I was majoring in hustling, something no university would give me a degree for.
I want to meet Depa!
Really enjoyed this interview with Wally Hesseltine, who is lining up at Western States again this year after missing last year’s finishing cutoff by a minute (heart breaker!). This guy has finished a race every month since 1981. Best takeaway advice from interview is to avoid falling during runs as much as possible meaning take the technical sections of trail races easy and make up time in the easier sections. I operate exactly the opposite and have the bruises up and down my legs currently to prove it!
Oh and I crushed and crashed the Wahsatch Steeplechase last weekend! Last week I gave myself a 12% chance of finishing under 3 hours which has been my goal for like ever and well I did it. Not exactly sure how I pulled that off, but I did. More details to follow eventually.
Lastly, the Brandie Carlile covers album is the best thing I’ve listened to so far this year!
