Took a huge wipe-out this past week on my last training run for the Wahsatch Steeplechase and bruised a good 30% of my body and rendered my thumb barely usable. Hopefully that means I will CRUSH the Steeplechase this weekend finally getting my sub-3 hour finish and then I can completely retire from running and get a Netflix subscription.
Honestly I give myself a 12% chance of finishing under 3 hours. When looking at my splits for the past 2 years (3:00:34 and 3:01:06), I cannot even fathom running that fast. My plan this year is to wear as little clothes as possible, carry nothing but a few GUs in my pocket, keep it steady on the ups, politely ask to pass people on the craggy section (my strength), and keep in control on the downhill (do not crash!) and hope to goodness that all adds up to a 2:59ish finish! It’s only Monday and I am already nervous!
In other news… Invisibilia is back and it is FANTASTIC! If you’ve never listened give Reality #2 a try. It is about people trying to experience life outside of their bubbles, by well invading other people’s bubbles. Seriously awesome podcast!
I finished the book, The Wild Truth, over the weekend and I am totally disturbed not to mention the fact the Eddie Vedder’s Society has playing in my head nonstop since beginning the book. The Wild Truth is the “untold” story of Chris McCandless of Into the Wild “fame” from the viewpoint of his sister. The book goes into all the gory details of their dysfunctional family life and almost wish I hadn’t read it. The actions of Chris’s parents were so disturbing I feel like I need a therapy session to hash it all out. I haven’t felt this disturbed from a book since I finished Gone Girl, except this is nonfiction.
The Trump Administration wants to shrink Bears Ears National Monument. Should we consider this good news considering it was at risk of being totally un-monumented?
This Mojo has been horribly lacking mojo, but that is just the way it is right now.
